You know what's happening. That doesn't always mean you can stop it.

Maybe you know you need a boundary, then hear yourself saying yes anyway.

You become overwhelmed and pull away from the thing you actually cared about.

You react much more strongly than you wanted to, then understand perfectly well afterward what happened.

Or you've done a lot of inner work and can explain the pattern beautifully, but when you're actually inside it, knowing better doesn't always give you another option.

That can get incredibly frustrating. Because at some point, the question becomes:

If I understand this so well, why does it keep happening?

Because understanding lives in one part of you. The pattern lives in another.

Your body has automatic responses to stress, threat and overwhelm.

Fight.   Flight.   Freeze.   Bracing.   Pulling away.   Going numb.

Sometimes there is an impulse to protect yourself, push back or say no that never gets the chance to fully happen. Your system is still carrying it.

Somatic Experiencing® is a body-oriented approach developed by Dr. Peter Levine for working with stress, shock and trauma through the nervous system. Instead of focusing only on the story of what happened, we work with what your system is doing right now:

A tightening in your chest.

A change in your breathing.

The urge to pull away.

A sudden blankness.

A feeling of wanting to disappear.

Those responses are not background noise. They're information. And that gives us something to work with.

What might begin to change?

This is not about becoming perfectly calm, or never getting activated again. The changes are more ordinary than that, and more useful.

01

You notice it sooner.

Instead of understanding the pattern three days later, you recognise it while it's happening.

02

You can feel something without following it.

Discomfort stops being something you have to escape, shut down, fix or organize your life around.

03

You find your way back faster.

Stress still happens. The difference is recognising where you've gone, and reconnecting with yourself sooner.

04

You have more choice.

A little more space between what your body expects and what you actually want to do next.

What happens when you book a session?

You don't need to arrive knowing what your nervous system is doing. And you definitely don't need to be "good at feeling your body."

We start with your life, not your nervous system. You tell me what brought you in, or what keeps repeating. From there, I help you notice what's happening physically as we talk. We might slow something down, track a sensation, or simply notice what changes when we give your system a little more time.

I explain what we're doing as we go, so your own patterns start making more sense to you. This work doesn't only matter during the session. You leave knowing how to notice yourself differently.

CERTIFIED SOMATIC COACH

About Justine

Justine_05.jpg

I’m Justine Steel. I’m a certified coach with nearly a decade of experience supporting people through change, emotional work, and the patterns that make both considerably more complicated.

I’ve completed the full three-year Somatic Experiencing® Professional Training, including the advanced level.

What I care most about in this work is discernment. There isn’t one exercise I think everybody needs. Sometimes we work with the survival response itself. Sometimes we slow down. Sometimes another layer of inner work would only pull us further away from what’s happening right now.

My job is to pay attention to what’s actually happening with you, and work from there.

You don’t need to know exactly where to begin.

You can bring the thing that keeps happening.
The reaction that feels bigger than the moment.
The part of your life you keep pulling away from.

Or simply the question you’ve been asking yourself for years:

Why do I keep doing this when I already understand it?

We can begin there.
