Does this sound familiar?

Sometimes you push past your limit. Sometimes you go quiet. Sometimes you start adjusting yourself around everyone else.

PUSH

You can feel you’re past your limit and still hear yourself think, “I’ll just finish this one thing.”

GO QUIET

You know what you want to say. Then the conversation happens, and suddenly it’s much harder to find the words.

ACCOMMODATE

You know what you want until someone else is disappointed. Then you start softening, adjusting or making room for what they need instead.

Different responses. Same wish: more access to yourself while it’s happening.

Understanding the pattern doesn’t always change what happens when your system reacts in real time.

Your body has automatic responses to stress, threat and overwhelm.

Fight. Flight. Freeze. Bracing. Pulling away. Going numb.

These responses can begin before you’ve had time to think through what you actually want to do.

Somatic Experiencing® gives us a way to notice and work with what is happening in the present moment, including shifts in breath, tension, sensation, movement and impulses toward action or withdrawal.

A tightening in your chest.

A change in your breathing.

The urge to pull away.

A sudden blankness.

A feeling of wanting to disappear.

Those responses give us information. They give us somewhere to begin.

What might begin to change?

This is not about becoming perfectly calm, or never getting activated again. The changes are more ordinary than that, graphics, and more useful.

01

You notice it sooner.

Instead of understanding the pattern three days later, you recognise it while it's happening.

03

You find your way back faster.

Stress still happens. The difference is noticing sooner and finding your way back to yourself faster.

02

You can feel something without following it.

Discomfort stops being something you have to escape, shut down, fix or organize your life around.

04

You have more choice.

A little more space between the automatic response and what you actually want to do next.

IN PERSON IN KAMLOOPS OR ONLINE FROM ANYWHERE

What happens when you book a session?

You don’t need to arrive knowing what your nervous system is doing. And you definitely don’t need to be “good at feeling your body.”

We start with your life. You tell me what brought you in or what keeps repeating.

As we talk, I pay attention to what is happening physically too. We may slow something down, notice a sensation, explore an impulse or see what changes when we give your system a little more time.

I explain what we’re doing as we go. The goal is not to perform somatic work correctly. It’s to become more familiar with your own patterns and have more choice when they show up outside the session.

CERTIFIED SOMATIC COACH

About Justine

Justine Steel Portrait

I’m Justine Steel, a Certified Somatic Coach with nearly a decade of coaching experience and I have also completed the three-year Somatic Experiencing® Professional Training.

Over the years, I’ve worked with hundreds of people through coaching, emotional work, parts and inner child work, leadership and personal change.

The longer I do this work, the less interested I am in applying the same technique to every person who sits across from me.

Sometimes we need to slow down. Sometimes we need to work directly with an impulse or protective response. Sometimes we need more support around what’s happening.

And sometimes another layer of inner work would only keep you circling something you’re ready to live differently.

Knowing the difference is a big part of how I work.

My job is to pay attention to what is actually happening with you and work from there.

You don’t need to know exactly where to begin.

Bring the thing that keeps happening. The response you understand afterward but still get pulled into in the moment. Or simply the question you’ve been asking yourself for years:

Why do I keep doing this when I already understand it?

We can begin there.
